Dave Greve’s Hole-in-One at Rich Springs GC
Ooch aye, gather ’round, lads and lassies — for here’s a tale that proves ye’re never too late in life tae send a wee white ba’ straight tae glory!
It was 1:30 in the afternoon on a crisp Minnesota fall day — October 27th, 2025 — at the beloved Rich Springs Golf Club in Cold Spring. The air sat at 52 degrees, partly sunny, wi’ a playful 5–10 mph breeze that made the leaves whisper across the fairways.
There stood Dave Greve — pronounced GREE-vee, a lad o’ 74 years young wi’ a swing as smooth as an old fiddle tune. He was the last tae hit on Hole #6, a handsome 159-yard par three from the white tees. Normally Dave might pull a 7-iron for the distance, but on a chilly autumn day when the golf ba’s behave more like frozen peas, wisdom said otherwise. So out came the Callaway Apex 8 six-iron, paired wi’ a loyal Titleist Pro V1.
His partners — Keith Aeikens, Adam Johnson, and Brady Brower of Annandale — were in fine spirits. Keith even joked that since their foursome was battlin’ the other group in assorted games, someone ought tae make a hole-in-one. He later admitted he almost filmed each shot… for he “had a feelin’.” But alas — no video!
Dave set himself, swung pure an’ smooth, and sent the ba’ off on the loveliest wee flight — straight, true, and huntin’ the flag from the first heartbeat. It landed ten feet short, rolled like it had a homing beacon…
…and then disappeared at the pin.
The reaction? Pandemonium, laddie! Arms up, shoutin’, hats flyin’, hugs all around. And then came the realization that made the moment even sweeter: none of the eight golfers on the trip had ever seen a hole-in-one before! Dave’s shot was a first for every single one of them.
But here’s the twist — this was Dave’s second ace, after makin’ his first at age 73. And that first one? The very first swing of the day at a Minnesota Senior Tour event in 2024! The next year, same hole, same event, he nearly dunked another — the ba’ struck the cup, tore the edge, and finished an inch away!
So on this fine October day in Cold Spring, Dave delivered Ace #2 — and gifted his friends a memory they’ll cherish forever.
Aye… better late than never, indeed.
